House Passes Republican-Led Bills to Strengthen, Streamline DHS

WASHINGTON House Homeland Security Committee Ranking Member Mike Rogers (R-Ala.) today applauded House passage of two Republican-led bills to improve and streamline the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) H.R. 769 the Counterterrorism Advisory Board Act, authored by Rep. John Katko (R-N.Y.) and H.R. 504, the DHS Field Engagement Accountability Act, authored by Rep. Don Bacon (R-Neb.).

These bills improve coordination and preparedness at DHS, which are essential to protecting our homeland and keeping America safe and secure, said Rogers. I am pleased the House took decisive action to pass these pieces of legislation right out of the gate of the new congress. Reps. Bacon and Katko deserve recognition for their leadership on these critical issues.

As the United States continues to face threats from terrorist organizations and extremists, it is imperative our country is well-prepared to respond, said Rep. Katko about H.R. 769. “This legislation will establish a coordinated strategy in order to stop attacks before they occur. Americans deserve to feel secure at home and abroad. It is essential that government agencies are all on the same page when it comes to protecting Americans from terror threats.

The critical partnership between DHS and fusion centers across the country cannot be understated, said Rep. Bacon about H.R. 504. When there isn t a second to spare, information sharing and coordination between our country s first responders and the federal government may help save lives. I am thankful the House passed this legislation, and I will not stop working until it reaches the President s desk.
